Brief Description of Fish Seed Farm, Bhola Sadar, Bhola

Bhola is the largest island district of Bangladesh full of scenic natural beauty surrounded by rivers. At its heart is the Fish Seed Production Farm of the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, Bhola. The total area of the farm is 4.2 hectares and the water area is 1.85 hectares. The farm has a total of 15 small and large ponds including nursery pond, rearing pond and brood stock pond. As the farm has been under the Brood Bank Establishment Scheme of the Department of Fisheries for the past few years, a collection of high quality brood stock has been developed here. It is a matter of great pride that several institutions and hatcheries of national and international level including World fish have collected brood from here. The farm has a hatchery running on a small scale, from which the quality fingerlings produced have been able to meet the fingerling shortage of Bhola fishermen to some extent. In addition, every year 20 fish farmers, nursery and fish farmers are trained in modern farming technology and techniques of various fish like carp. If the manpower crisis of the Fisheries Department is removed, this farm will become a bright institution in the fisheries sector in the near future.
